Ferry dodging

After a ghastly Bank Holiday Monday, Tuesday dawned bright, clear and breezy. Returning to the boat to find a leak in the anchor well drains had wet the bedding and cushions in the forepeak. After some tidying up, Trevor and I set out in a SSW F4, and quickly put a reef in the main, as the breeze freshened. We enjoyed a fast reach on the reefed main and staysail around the harbour, as the wind increased to F5/6. The only other boats on the move were the fast-moving Irish ferries, so we had the water otherwise to ourselves. A satisfying beat back
Into the marina completed our return for lunch. 10.4nm, 2hr 30 mins, 4.1kt , 6.5kt max.

Afternoon trip to Church Bay

A change of crew and another trip out of the harbour. This time we set off with myself, Niki, Caroline and Alice aboard.

The wind had, as forecast, increased to a F4 and swung round S of SW, in advance of the Southerly F8 forecast overnight.

From the mouth of the harbour we took a nice 3 sail training run NE towards Church Bay. Aurora made excellent speed, the GPS peaking at over 6kts!

No time to stay, we then turned and beat back to the marina on main and stay sail. 8.3nm 2hrs 30min 3.4kts avg speed, 7kts max
